SAFETY AND USE INFORMATION
ARROW BREAKAGE
As with any arrow, the arrow must be inspected for damage before each shot. Use of the arrow can create damage due to impacts with animals, other arrows or objects. Damaged arrows can break during release causing injury to bystanders or the archer. DO NOT SHOOT an arrow that you believe has been, or might be, damaged.
- Hold arrow shaft, placing one hand above the point and one hand below the fletching. Do not hold shaft above the fletching when testing. Damage will occur.
- Flex shaft at a deflection of 1-2 inches.
- Bend away from you and others when flexing arrow to avoid possible injury.
- Rotate shaft slightly and flex again. Continue testing 5-6 times.
- Continuing to hold both ends of arrow shaft, twist shaft in both directions to test for twisting.
- If you detect any cracking or twisting in arrow, destroy it immediately.
CUTTING ARROWS
Arrows should not be cut less than one to one and a half inches in front of the arrow rest. Cutting arrows too short can result in the arrow being lodged behind the riser of the bow or behind the arrow rest. Shooting a bow in this state will create arrow failure, and can cause equipment damage and bodily injury.
HUNTING WITH CARBON ARROWS
Carbon shafts used in hunting can break from impacting the animal, or from the animal's reaction (ie: falling on embedded arrow). Only until after recovery of the animal can it be determined if there is a break.
When a carbon arrow breaks, it can shatter into many splinter-like fragments. Fragments can be harmful to humans if ingested. This must be taken into consideration when hunting, and special precautions should be taken when doing so. ALWAYS carefully determine if there has been damage to the arrow when game is recovered.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVAL OF BROKEN CARBON ARROWS
- Taking extreme caution, remove broken segments of arrow shaft.
- In the areas of the entrance and exits wounds, remove flesh which may contain carbon fiber.
- After thoroughly cleaning the wound areas, carefully inspect for remaining traces of carbon splinters.
- Ensuring it cannot be reached by scavengers, properly dispose of any meat that could contain carbon fragments.
